...college students were getting crap for believing the Bible. It's very sad, but in some ways comforting to know that this is nothing new.
"in sending it forth afresh I continue to dedicate it to those university and college students throughout the world who, singly or in groups, maintain among their colleagues the apostolic witness to Jesus Christ our Lord.

Oh man, Hershinator, this reminds me of TODAY in Brit Lit. My prof was being entirely dense. We're reading Milton's "Paradise Lost," which is...well, depending on your interpretation, pretty misogynistic, and I say this NOT being a feminist, and accepting general Christian truths about the differences & roles of the sexes... so you know it has to be pretty blatant.
But this is what happened in a nutshell:
Prof: Well, Milton is fully supported by Scripture, of course. After all, in 1 Corinthians 11:3 it says that Christ is the head of man and man is the head of woman, therefore obviously women are farther from God and man is morally superior and women are earthly and corrupt and blah, blah, blah, blah blah.
Me (in my head): Behold, the dangers of proof texting. No, maybe just the dangers of drawing wild, extrapolated conclusions...
Someone else: But you know there are other verses about how husbands must love their wives like Christ loves the Church, and how in Christ there is neither male nor female and Christ talking with women and basically other things that help us understand the relationship between the sexes rightly?
Prof: Well, *some* people do pick out a verse here and there to justify themselves with, but...
She LITERALLY said that in response. I'm glad my jaw didn't break the desk.
She's not all bad... but definitely one of those profs who just likes to insert little jabs against traditional Christianity into everything she says. Which is so annoying, because it's usually so offhand/irrelevant (and also so complexly wrong) that it's not really worth pressing the point.
Wow, that's really really bad...on so many levels. :-(
